✍🏼Getting Mail 📬
One of 🐶 Stormy’s favourite past-time is watching the mail slot of the apartment door. He loves to receive mail, and so do I! 💌
Stormy seems to know the exact time 🕦 that the Canada Post worker will arrive at our apartment door, and he is ALWAYS ready to get the mail. (aka bite the mail) 🤦🏻♀️ As Stormy matures into adulthood, he has grown bigger and more territorial. Teaching him to calm down was not easy, until…
One day, I asked if the postal worker 😳 would want to meet Stormy. He seemed hesitant but said yes, Stormy came out to the hallway and they greeted each other. The worker extended his hand over to let Stormy sniff, and immediately we could see that Stormy ADORES him. 🤗 With aggressive tail wagging, Stormy invited the worker to give him pets.
Since then, Stormy has transformed his attitude with the mail. He is excited, letting out a small yelp as if to say hello. I always ask if I can let Stormy out the door to say hello, and they exchange a short greeting in the hallway. I can hear the joyful laughter from the postal worker, but also see how Stormy also enjoyed these visits. 💕 I just love their adorable friendship. 🥹
We appreciate the care and kindness that postal workers bring into their work. Shoutout to the postal worker who creatively stuffed my uni certificate in the door frame, so it remains unfolded and crisp. Or the unspoken code, a light knock on the door to let us know there is a package. Postal workers across the nation ensure that we receive and send hard copy documents on time. 🫡🫡🫡
Postal workers are working in sun, rain, snow, wind, and ice to deliver to our doors. As frontline workers, they put in physical labour, navigate hazardous conditions, and provide an essential service to Canadians. 🍁
In this vast nation, we rely on physical postal services to deliver information and packages across urban, rural, and remote communities. ☀️🌧️❄️💨⚡️🏃
We have since moved from that tiny apartment since. Stormy still gets hyper at the mail, when he sees postal worker walking up the sidewalk. He barks and jumps in excitement, and his tail wags like a mini motor. 🐾🐾🐾
At this new place, we have a new mail routine. Ahead of the mail schedule, we try our best to ensure the front door is accessible and safe for workers to walk up - especially during snowy and icy conditions. 🦺🦺🦺 Stormy always greets the worker through the front window. When we check on the mailbox, Stormy stands guard beside me.
In a digital age, almost all of my documentation are provided virtually. In this transition, I have realized that physical mail is more important than ever before. 📃📨 The documents that I must receive by mail are ones that cannot be replaced by digital forms, such as driver’s licences, health cards, passports, official government applications and paperwork (and of course, occasional postcards and annual holiday cards)
Canada Post serves as a vital public service to Canadians from coast to coast to coast. Growing and building a stronger postal service will only benefit Canada.
