HKSAR - Article 23

HKSAR - Article 23

Let’s be real about this:

Article 23 is going to further suppress the civil rights discussion within HKSAR and amongst the Hongkonger diaspora.

As an outspoken critic of PRC/HKSAR, it did little to challenge my activism for a free and democratic Hong Kong.

The real spotlight should not be (& should rarely be) on the publicly-known activists whose lives will face little material change. HKSAR has been and will continue to go after them. Western nations can offer some protection to citizens, residents, & refugees.

Article 23 is threatening not only those within HKSAR, but also HK diaspora & broader anti-CCP dissidents at large.

The vague, yet broad implications of the law will apply to almost every single diasporic community organizations, supported by their local govts.

Those within HKSAR, Article 23 will serve as another vector for repression & suppression.

Fear will sweep across the community, once again. Afraid of saying the wrong thing at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Additional charges & extended sentences are to be expected.
