Ottawan Hongkongers Under Attack

Hongkongers gathered on Parliament to protest the Chinese government’s suppression of the pro-democracy movement.

Pro-Beijing patriots came, assaulted a Hongkonger in front of parl security & RCMP officers. They eventually kettled HKers (aka surrounded us

As an organizer, we knew there risks to hosting a protest. Attendees were encouraged to wear masks.

Ahead of Oct1, we had received screenshots of WeChat groups with people threatening to kill/hurt Hongkongers.

We decided we wouldn’t back down, but stand up and show up.

After this, I and a few other attendees were doxxed.

Our private information, such as contact info, student number, course schedule, which neighborhood we reside in, were published in WeChat groups.

This was my first in-person full blown exposure to UF’s mobilization in Canada.
