A Way Out of Foreign Interference
NSICOP report shouldn’t be used by partisan leaders to assign blame & fear-mongering #cdnpoli
Where is the partisan leadership in addressing gray areas in leadership & nomination races? These are issues within your own party & can be addressed without #PIFI stepping in
Re- some politicians’ messaging (esp those disinterested in FI until they found political leverage)
1- without a doubt, MP, Senator, staffers, officials, lobbyists, lawyers, media pundits, journalists are ALL targets of foreign interference
Wittingly or not, this is a fact
2- even if criminal activities were recorded by intelligence, there are legislative & institutional gaps to enable intel to be used as evidence in court.
These gaps were not addressed by Bill C-70, this will remain a barrier for police to charge those complicit in FI
3- naming FI-complicit individuals will not end FI. Foreign principals will simply find new targets using new tactics.
FI will continue unless there are systemic & institutional changes from all lvls of political network: parties, leadership offices, caucus, staff, riding, etc.
4- reliance on PIFI to investigate within your own political party is idiotic. PIFI is not a trash can to dump your problems at.
We need to be solutions focused & implement the recommendations that come from PIFI when they complete policy phase.
Foreign principals target the pre-existing vulnerabilities in our democratic institutions, whether riding race or campaign or HQ level
Strengthening Canadian democracy is the only way out.
