Voting in Hong Kong

Voter outcome is a symptom of the broader political discontent in #HongKong

District councils used to be where everyday people can seek advocacy, social assistance, access community services, & get support from local councillors.

This renewed cohort of “elected” pro-Beijing councillors’ will deter HKers to seek support. Cutting off a major source of support for local neighborhoods (don’t forget strong pro-democratic votes from 2019 elxn)

Queer & non-Han communities will suffer disproportionately

This trend accelerated since HKNSL, I’ll say it again:
HKSAR is dismantling communities by cutting off non-establishment organizations: education, healthcare, civil service, NGOs & now..

Even those previously neutral entities are replaced by pro-Beijing groups.
